Join Us at the Manager Tools Effective Manager Conference!
January 24th, 2007Mike and I are pleased to announce that we are inviting just 100 members to our first ever Effective Manager Conference, April 18 -19, at the Washington Dulles Airport Marriott.
Space is limited to 100, so please sign up quickly. We limited it to 100 attendees to allow us to give each attendee the individual attention that you’ve come to expect from us. No matter what your question or concern, we’ll answer it.
Over 2 JAMMED days, we’ll deliver what you’ve come to expect from us: specific, actionable guidance about how to become more effective as a manager.
If you have questions, please go to the Effective Manager Conference page.
If you’re ready now, go to our conference registration page to register now.
I’ll be blogging about it further in the coming weeks, but here are a couple of points I want to highlight now:
Low Cost: Registration is $1,400 normally, or $1,100 for early registration, ending on February 18th. We’ve priced and attended competitive sessions - we’re not only less expensive than the vast majority, we’re also going to deliver more content. To say nothing of the fact that we include meals in your registration - we don’t think too many others do that. Frankly, we want you to focus on learning, not on eating or filling out expense reports.
New Products: We’ll be launching my new Effective Coaching Model. Only FOUR steps. And we’ll practice it together, and give you feedback. And, we’ll release, for the first time ever, our Performance Management Model, connecting the day to day and week to week to you and your organization’s annual goals.
We’re thrilled to offer this opportunity, and commit to you that it will be all that you expect from us, and more.
See you soon!

This sounds great, any chance in the future you might get down this way and do a similar thing?

This sounds great! Any chance you will be getting down to Australia in the future to do a similar program?
Tim

Cool!
You should plan to do it in a video conf environment to let Tim from Australia, and I from Italy have a chance to ‘kind of’ participate

Congratulations on this new undertaking!
Will this conference be geared towards those who are currently working as managers? Would it be appropriate for aspiring managers?
Thanks,
Ojeda

Ojeda-
It will absolutely be appropriate for aspiring managers. It’s funny to think about counting the number of folks who have told us, “wish I’d had this __ years ago!” We will be training you on the core of great management skills… and for an aspiring manager, what will be great is that you will actually get to practice and get feedback from others…something probably difficult without a team of your own.
We’d love to see you there. Might be good for some of our more senior managers, to see a future manager eagerly growing his or her skills.

What a great idea! Mike and I will look into it.

Mark –
I recall you saying this will occur in other cities. Do you have a rough schedule, so out-of-towners can determine if Wash DC is best for them?
January 24th, 2007 at 10:22 am
Connick-
Great question - glad you asked.
The short answer is that if you want to attend this year in the US, you need to plan on coming to this event. Part of this is driven by corporate client commitments I have that are unable to be unwound with less than 9 months notice.
We have every intent of holding these more than once a year, but we will watch the first one closely to ensure it justifies the bandwidth it requires.
As well, our plan for a second EMC this year is likely to be in Europe.
Hope this helps!

Mark,
While I’m strongly interested in attending this, I’m going to be in “career transition” mode right around that time (read - current job ends March 31); so, as part of the evaluative process, could I ask if you have an idea of what post-conference material/collateral you’ll be sharing (by which I reasonably assume selling) to NON-attendees? Or is it a “show up or nothing” deal (which I’d understand, but I think I need to ask the question and check!).
Regards,
Gary

Gary-
It’s unlikely that any conference materials will be released to non attendees afterwards.
And I’d prefer not to characterize it as you did. As a long time client shared with Mike and I today, “those folks who have never seen you don’t realize what they’ll be missing!”
We’re trying to be respectful of everyone’s time when we only market quietly.

Mark/Mike -
This is so exciting! I’m already planning how I might put together a proposal to attend but it won’t be easy. I hope (for my own selfish sake!) that the 100 places don’t go too quickly!

I’ve seen Mike and Mark in action in person. They are very impressive and a lot of fun. Our company (Fortune 20) regularly hires them in to give advice to our junior managers.
If you haven’t had them into your company yet, then definitely go see them for yourself… perhaps your company’s training/education reimbursement benefit may be of service…

Peter-
We’d be thrilled! If you need supporting info, like testimonials, please just let us know. They’re ready to go.

Mark/Mike,
This is great news! Although I must admit, I am a little nervous to go. I equate this to a pilgramage to Mecca or the Holy Land. When I land at Dulles I expect little Management Angels to be singing in the background and a glorious light to be shinning from the Marriott!
In all seriousness, this sounds like a great opportunity. Now I just have to convince my boss to fund the expenditure. Considering that my boss is also my father and gets very perterbed when I am out of the office I have a feeling I’ll be paying for this one on my own!

Is there a discount code for staying at the hotel?
January 25th, 2007 at 12:09 pm
I’m sure there is, although I don’t know off-hand what it is. When you register, we are collecting your hotel reservation information and providing it directly to the hotel where, of course, they will apply the proper rates.

Mark,
I completely understand, and I aplogize for the way I characterized things in my email. No slight intended.
Now, off to try and work it out so that I can attend!

Gary

Mark and Mike: I was excited to see your offering. Perhaps it has been pondered and disregarded but offering CPE credits would kill two birds with one stone. I know there would be additional expense to get it set up but it might make it more attractive for us CPA’s to attend (you know we need help with our personal skills). I am fortunate that my company helps subsidize my required continuing education. I imagine that there are others that have a built in pool of money for CE that needs to be spent. I have been to enough seminars where I have been lucky to have 20% of the material applicable. I would love to go to one where 99.9% apply to my daily life. Roger

I’m signed up! Do I need to go register for the hotel separately? I put in my preferred dates & credit card info on the registration tool, but I didn’t see any confirmation that I was allocated a room.
January 25th, 2007 at 8:54 pm
I am totally psyched about this! Thanks Mark and Mike! I’m not sure if I can fit this in because of personal and work commitments but I will damn well try.
January 25th, 2007 at 9:25 pm
JoeFuture,
As long as you specified your hotel preferences during the registration, I’ll be communicating that directly to the hotel. No action required on your part.
Looking forward to meeting you at the conference. We’re going to have a blast!
regards,
Mike

IndianaRoger,
Frankly, that’s not something we had considered. We’ll put that on our list of things to look into.
Thanks!

This conference is like an answer to my prayers! I’m going to request approval today to attend, company funded of course. I think I can make a fairly good argument as part of continued professional development. I do have couple questions that may further improve my chances for approval:
1) Earlier post mentioned testimonials. If needed, how do we request them from you?
2) I realize you have many corporate clients. I’m in a fairly large, widely dispersed company (over 40,000 people). Is it possible to confirm if we are one of your clients? I think this will add additional support. Or can you tell me what your ‘vendor name’ is you use for billing purposes (I’m guessing it’s your names?)so I can have our accounting dept. check to see if you are on our corp. vendor list.
Wish me luck!

“Might be good for some of our more senior managers, to see a future manager eagerly growing his or her skills. ” –Mark
This is exactly how I was able to get approved for the conference. I am trying to move into a more senior role myself and Manager Tools, with the actionable advice, has begun to really show its benefits; this conference can only improve my performance and potential!
Mike and Mark, I a very excited to be attending this conference. I have begun reviewing the topics (has it really been 1.5 years since the feedback and coaching podcasts!?) and preparing questions.
By the way, the price point is excellent. You sure made it easy to decide to go.

Listened to the podcast on my way to work this morning and thought it was a great overview and it has peaked my interest. Will be speaking with my manager today about this investment in my development and career.
This is my first comment on your site since becoming a regsiatered member earlier this month. Thanks very much to both of you for all you do through this enterprise. You have certainly changed how I think about my staff, my boss, and myself.
Best regards, Terry

Hi guys. I’d really like to go, but my company requires that payment be done via a purchase order. The conference web site only shows a credit card option. Is paying by PO possible?
January 26th, 2007 at 7:26 pm
adennie,
Send me an email (michael@manager-tools.com) with some contact info and let’s see if we can figure out a way to help you.
thanks,
Mike

When are you doing a conference in australia? Even though there are only a handful of us here you that listen to you, you could have a holiday, call it work and write it off as a tax deduction
January 31st, 2007 at 11:55 am
It would be great to have it as a vodcast (video podcast) for people of other countries. Why not have it as a ‘paid’ vodcast with conference materials?
Also, when are you having this in India?
February 1st, 2007 at 4:07 am
Hi,
I follow previous replies and look forward to the first session down under. Even then this will still involve hours of travelling for me but it will surely be worth it. The video option would be a great alternative as well, I’ll be ready to stay up at night for this…
February 6th, 2007 at 7:47 pm
Hi,
As someone who has seen my Dad in action, I have to say, he’s the best. I hope everyone who wants to come to the conference gets to, as I am sure it will be the highlight of the YEAR!

India and Australia … can’t say when it’s going to happen, but Mark and I would be all for it if there was sufficient interest!
February 8th, 2007 at 7:11 am
Hi mark and mike,
I live in europe (Cz republic) , I would like to come at the EMC in DC, but I read that you plan an EMC in Europe this year.
Do you think it is better to wait your EMC in Europe ?
Thank for all your incredible advice, you change my way of working.
Only one regret : Why you didn’t start this 8 years ago
February 8th, 2007 at 4:21 pm
Penven,
Frankly, I wouldn’t recommend you wait. First, we haven’t scheduled the Europe EMC conference yet and there are a number of factors (our consulting commitments, for example) that could impact the date/location. Second, there is great value in starting now, vs. waiting … think of the impact of an extra 9 months of effective management behaviors on your organization (and your career). And third, we’d just plain like to meet you earlier!
Hope that helps!
best regards,
Mike

Mike and Mark,
As soon-to-be college graduate, and someone who is seeking as much good advice as possible, what kind of activities (seminars, programs, etc…) can someone on a limited budget like me, take advantage of?
I ask this because I became very excited about your conference this year and the opportunity this presents for your listeners. The price of admission to you seminar does seem well worth the value, but I hesitate as I do not have a sponsor and believe that because of my inexperience, I may not be able to extract the full value of the conference. Also, just the idea that there are probably other, cheaper, things out there that may be just as effective.
Please let me know your thoughts as it might benefit other young listeners as well.
