Atlanta Meet Up - January 30th
January 20th, 2007Mike and I will be in Atlanta on the evening of January 30th, and would like to host the first ever Atlanta Area Manager Tools Meet Up. Our third ever, and second of the month!
We’re planning again to host everyone for pizza (or something) and sodas, and are working on location details. [Josh Gunkel has already graciously agreed to help us with details - thanks Josh.]
But we need some help. We will be out in Alpharetta, at 400 and Windward Parkway area. Can we do it out there, or would we get notably better attendance if we came into town? [Beware, if you want us too close, I’ll want to do it at the Varsity and get a chili dog and a Frosted Orange
]
What’s best? We’d like input to make the decision.

I’m not an ATL expert so you won’t get much help from me setting it up.
I’ll come to just about any event in the southeast you folks put together.
Weekend are easier, but you all are busier than me.
I get it.
I’m not complaining.
I think I have a conflict and I’ll probably take a pass on this one.
Have fun.

I’m not sure if you plan on doing a podcast at the event.
It’d be cool if you did.
Not as fun as being there, but I’d enjoy listening to it.
Cheers,

I’m born and raised in Atlanta.
If you want to go downtown to the Varsity for a neked dog and a frosted orange, you’ll need to leave Alpharetta around 4:30pm at the latest to get there by 6:00pm. GA 400 (The Atlanta Auto-bahn) is currently under construction, making it even worse than it usually is.
There are mini-Varsity restaurants in Norcross and Kennesaw - each will require about 1 hour of travel time to reach.
This might be more what you are looking for, though:

If you ever have a chance to entertain someone in style and don’t want to go to a jacket-required restaurant in Alpharetta, the Cabernet is your best choice on Windward Parkway.

On 2nd thought, the Ray’s in Alpharetta looks a little small compared to its big brother. Never mind that suggestion.

I would like to attend if I’m not traveling. Out in the ‘burbs would work better for me than in Atlanta.

There is also a “mini” varsity in Alpharetta. I know most anywhere in Alpharetta or Roswell would work great for me.

What time are you thinking?

I work up at the perimeter and would be happy to join in on the festivites. Do you guys have a flight that night? Meeting later would allow some time for traffic to die down.
There is a shopping center called “perimeter place” that has a ton of stuff. It is at I-285 and Ashford Dunwoody.

I had no idea we had a varsity up here. I’ll scout it for you during lunch today.

There’s a whole host of chain restaurants and other locations all along Windward Pkwy. It all depends on the number of people you expect.
I know Cabernet at 400 / WW have a private room (wine cellar), or there’s a Macaroni Grill at the other end of the road.
Looking forward to the opportunity to meet y’all.

in town…mid-town, not downtown. yes for varsity. or fuego…how many you expecting?
January 22nd, 2007 at 6:30 pm
I’d suggest the “Perimeter” area, around I-285 and GA-400. Alpharetta is great for anyone who lives or works there, but is an ugly place to get to from downtown, midtown, buckhead, Cobb, Gwinnett, etc.
The “Perimeter Place” suggestion is a good one.

I work near 400 and Abernathy. Roswell, Alpharetta, or Perimeter all are convenient. However, I am willing to accomodate just about any drive.
I guess now would be a good time to review “Secrets of a Great Handshake”

Please let me know the time/location. I would welcome the opportunity to meet you guys. Also happy to help make any arrangements possible as I live in this area. As pointed out, there is now a Varsity in the 400-Windward area on Haynes Bridge Rd - same great chili dogs, frosted oranges and peach pies (my favorite). Look forward to meeting you guys soon.

It is actually at the intersection of Mansell and North Point Pkwy

The map they put on their website is wrong. For direction enter the address on their site into Google maps.
See everybody Tuesday

There is a Varsity only one exit south of 400 and Winward Parkway. Chili dog and an FO sounds good to me.

All,
The reservation is set for 20 people 7PM Tuesday January 30th at Buca de Beppo close to the intersection of Mansell and North Point Parkway. Let us know if you will be attending so that we can ask for more room if we need it.
Thanks,
Josh

Man, I am so bummed. I have prior engagements already set in stone for that night. Ironically, I will be up on Winward all evening.. However, I’ll be driving by Bucca on my way home, I’ll stop by and see if anyone’s there but it may be late.
I hope you guys come back to Atlanta another time though, I’m very sorry I have to miss this one. Buca is a great choice by the way. If you have a chance also try Ipollito’s which is a local chain in the North Central Burbs, very yummy.

Count me in.
February 4th, 2007 at 1:50 am
I missed this due to being both inattentive and across the country in Seattle. Did it happen and can we organize a local event for you guys?
