Archive Clarity

July 31st, 2006

Several folks have written in today suggesting that perhaps the reason for the site’s slowdown was that listeners were worried that we were getting set to archive old podcasts, and they were “stocking up” before the curtain came down.

First of all, Mike reports that our logs show that that is NOT the case. The downloads are coming from our last 2 shows, and from the free content associated with the monthly cast on How To Prepare For Your Review.

Further, regardless of what musings we’ve shared so far, we have NO INTENT TO ARCHIVE OLD SHOWS. We can’t promise we won’t “ever” do that, but we don’t see that happening this year at least, and we’d like to never have to, period. We admit that to some degree this decision will be based on cost-revenue issues, which probably boils down to subscription revenue. But we are confident.

The reason we’re able to say this is because we see the casts always being free, and revenue coming from the collateral associated with the show, plus certain special, narrowly focused “product suites” of casts to be released soon.

So, in case you were worried, no rush. Take your time.

As the old Doritos commercial in the states went: “Crunch all you want. We’ll make more.”

Digg!    Stumble it!

    Mark/Mike,

Is it your intent to keep the “tools” on the site as well . . . just like the casts? (I’m referring to the tools like the coaching card, communication splan, delegeation worksheet, etc etc.

Thanks for all your work and service to the community here.

    Donnie-

I think the answer is yes… I can’t imagine where else we would put them. Those that we have already posted will always be there.

So, if you’re asking will we archive/limit access to the tools we’ve already released, that answer is a resounding NO. They’re free and always will be - tell your friends. ;-)

We will be releasing more tools in the future, some of which go WAY beyond a document or form or guideline. Interview question generators (with answer evaluation guidance), DiSC communication guidance based on your style and others, retention analysis and improvement tools, managerial project management functionality, executive team performance analysis, etc. Some of that is fairly complex behind the scenes - it’s not a trivial coding task - but they will be simple to use. In those cases, there may be some additional costs, or be only available to premium subscribers. That may depend upon the number of subscribers we get. They’ve all been prototyped, and many of my clients have used them quite successfully (and paid for their custom versions, many of which are still happily in use).

That help? (good question, by the way).

    Mark
