The Effective Executive by Peter Drucker
Why We Like This Book:
The greatest management book ever written. Drucker delivers here the most powerful and simple insight every manager must know - one's time is one's scarcest resource. This is a slim volume, and the best value on the list. You may quibble with Drucker's insights on meetings, but it doesn't matter - just the first 50 pages are worth 5 years of management development training.

Before reading this, I had assumed that
Before reading this, I had assumed that this stuff writen in 1967 would have been much improved on by now, and that therefore this book was no longer necessary. However, having implemented many of Mark and Mikes recommendations such as one-to-ones, I trust their judgement and bought it.
I was completely blown away by Drucker's relevant and sharp insights into management. So many of his examples are post-war and interesting from a historical perspective, yet demonstrating certain consistencies in human behaviour.
I totally agree with Mark and Mike, if you are or aspire to be an executive, you really have to read this book. TRUST THEM - BUY IT - READ IT.
My Dad used to read Drucker religiously
My Dad used to read Drucker religiously - I didn't think that he had much relevance to todays world, but I was blown away by this book. More so the first 50 pages as recommended. Love your pod-casts - I always find some tidbit that I can use right away.

The "Effective Executive" is not a
The "Effective Executive" is not a re-hash of old materials, is not someones out-dated ideas about leadership. This book has relevance because it deals with the basic attitudes of people about people. The book deals with basic human traits, not fads of the moment.
There is so much rehash out there. If you absorb these ideas and implement them, yes Mark, even the things about meetings, you'll be a better person - first and a much better manager - second.
This is a must read book. I found it
This is a must read book. I found it amazing how descriptions of decisions and problems of yesterdays business are all still there today. Everything in this book is still relevant. Its an easy read, and will give you many ideas of what actions you need to take to become a Effective Manager/Executive.
Powerful reading. Heavy discussion on
Powerful reading. Heavy discussion on how to manage time properly and how time is a massive asset in any organization among other things, a focus on how to change and why to change and to change immediately. Definetly the book to start with!
As for it being slim it would average a larger book today as the font is small and there is NO wasted space anywhere in this book, even the book's format is effective.

Ken- It's a classic management book.

It's a classic management book. It's fairly "light", but if more managers followed its recommendations, we'd be a lot better off.

"Inside Drucker's Brain" Jeffrey A. Krames
I just purchased this book based on a one day interview with Drucker late in his life. It looks very promising and I was wondering if anyone has read it and if so what their thoughts were?
